Post 735 sponsors numerous youth programs. Below is a list and description of the programs we sponsor.
Hiawatha Kids League – Local youth baseball league for boys and girls teams of various ages. Players are given an opportunity to develop their skills as they advance through the various age brackets. Post 735 sponsors a boys team and girls team.

American Legion Baseball – The American Legion sponsors American Legion Baseball to give players an opportunity to develop their skills, personal fitness, leadership qualities, and to have fun. Post 735 sponsors a local team.

Hawkeye Boys State – Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government. Post 735 sponsors between 2 and 4 boys each year.

American Legion of Iowa Essay Contest - The purpose of the contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the United States Flag on the part of elementary-level students. Other objectives of the contest include the ability to gain knowledge of flag etiquette and respect for the flag. Post 735 sponsors this event at Viola Gibson, Hiawatha, and Nixon elementary schools.

Schweinefus Citizenship Award – This award is dedicated to Conley Schweinefus who was an outstanding and dedicated member of Post 735. He was an avid supporter of youth programs. This award is presented to an outstanding student from Kennedy High School. A recipient must possess the high qualities of Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship and Service. Post 735 presents this award to a student each year.
Santa at the Legion – Santa comes to visit Post 735 each year where children of all ages can come and let him know what they want for Christmas. There are treats for the kids and a drawing for gifts for girls and boys.
